Karma, Karma, Chameleon

Calumma parsoni - Parson's Chameleon

This time we're back to pictures from the archives.

No captive animals this time, but chameleons in the rainforests of Madagascar, were I spent 2 weeks in march 2010

A fantastic 2 weeks it was - we encountered many different species of chameleons, from the worlds largest (Calumma parsoni) to the smallest (Brookesia sp.)

We spent our time in Ranomafana, Andasibe and on the island of Nosy Be

Spring is here !

Finally, the first days of + degrees and some rays of sun is here - and even thought the temperatures is just above 0, the first adders of the year got out from their burrows.

And the best of all, I got the chance to photograph no less than 5 female adders. This time I wanted to try something I seldom do when I take picture of reptiles, and that is to photograph them with an wide angle lens, usually I use different macro lenses.

Today I used my D700 with a Nikon AF 35mm f/2 lens, and a wireless flash with a 15x20cm softbox

Crested Gecko

One of my absolute favourite geckos are the Crested Gecko (Rhacodactylus ciliatus), a gecko that has a rather fascinating history. They where thought to be more or less extinct, but in 1994 it was rediscovered on the islands of New Caledonia. Some specimens was brought back to Europe, and these are now the forefathers to all the millions of Crested Geckos in captivity today.

These geckos reach ages of 15-20 years, and grow to 12-18cm
